About FurnaceQuotes.ca

A quote request service with free tools to judge any heating or cooling quote: who runs it, how it is paid for and where our prices come from.

Who we are

FurnaceQuotes.ca is a quote request service and editorial site for Ontario homeowners, funded by the participating companies that receive requests. We are not a heating contractor. We help you request a real, written quote for your home, and give you free tools to judge it or any quote you already have.

What we do

  • Pass your request to one participating local HVAC company, which books a free in-home estimate and gives you a written quote.
  • Publish typical Ontario price ranges for furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, boilers and water heaters.
  • Offer free tools: a quote checker, a comparison worksheet and a furnace price estimator.
  • Explain what a fair quote includes and what to ask before you sign, in the Quote Guide.

What we do not do

  • Sell, install, repair or service any equipment.
  • Certify, license, inspect or guarantee any company.
  • Show reviews, star scores or customer tallies we cannot prove.
  • Use cookies, analytics or advertising pixels.
  • Send your details to data brokers or other contractors.

Where our money comes from

Using FurnaceQuotes.ca is free. Participating local heating and cooling companies receive the quote requests sent through the site, and that is how the site is funded. You never pay us, and sending a request does not commit you to anything.

That gives us a reason to want you to send a request, so we say it plainly. Here is how we keep it from bending our advice:

  • Our price ranges come from the method below, not from any one company's price list.
  • The quote checker says so when a price looks high, whoever wrote the quote.
  • No company can pay to change a range, a tool result or a guide.
  • We encourage you to compare quotes, and give you a worksheet to do it.

The step by step, from the form to a written quote, is on how it works.

How we set our price ranges

Our ranges are built from prices that Ontario contractors publish, manufacturer and distributor list-price guidance and the scope of a typical install. They were last reviewed in October 2026. Your own quote still depends on the house, access, venting, ductwork, brand and time of year.

What every range assumes

  • A detached home in Ontario. Semis, townhouses and condos can price differently.
  • A standard replacement, with existing ductwork and venting that can be reused.
  • The equipment plus standard installation labour. Hauling away the old unit is often part of the price.
  • Canadian dollars, before 13% HST.
  • Reviewed October 2026.

How we keep them current

Every range on the site comes from one price table, so pages and tools such as the quote checker never disagree. When we review the table, the date shown with each range changes with it.

Typical installed ranges, main systems

Single-stage gas furnace (95 to 96% AFUE)
$4,000 to $6,500
Two-stage gas furnace (96% AFUE, ECM blower)
$5,500 to $8,000
Modulating gas furnace (97 to 98% AFUE, variable-speed blower)
$7,000 to $11,000
Standard central AC, 1.5 to 3 tons (about 14.3 SEER2)
$3,800 to $7,000
New furnace and central AC in one job
$8,000 to $15,000
Whole-home ducted cold-climate heat pump
$9,000 to $18,000
Dual fuel (heat pump paired with a gas furnace)
$11,000 to $20,000
Single-zone ductless mini-split
$3,500 to $6,500
Combi boiler for heat and hot water (high efficiency)
$7,000 to $13,000
Gas tank water heater, 40 to 50 gallons
$1,800 to $3,200

Typical Ontario prices in CAD, before 13% HST. Reviewed October 2026. Ranges, not quotes.

What moves a real quote

  • Size and heat loss

A CSA F280 room-by-room calculation sets the capacity. Larger or draftier homes need more.

  • Venting and ducts

New venting or a chimney liner adds $300 to $1,500; duct changes $500 to $3,000+.

  • Electrical capacity

Heat pumps can need $500 to $2,500 of electrical work, or a panel upgrade.

  • Access and season

Tight basements and attics take longer, and the first cold weeks of fall are the busiest for furnaces.

Editorial standards

Every page is written and reviewed by the FurnaceQuotes.ca editorial team to the same rules.

  • Canadian sources first

Ontario and federal program pages, TSSA guidance for gas work and the CSA F280 sizing standard.

  • Primary rebate links

We link the official program pages, such as Home Renovation Savings, note that programs change and must be confirmed before you buy, and never promise a rebate amount.

  • No invented people or praise

No fake experts, testimonials, star ratings or customer counts. The byline is our editorial team.

  • Safety wording

Gas work in Ontario needs a TSSA-registered contractor, and sizing shortcuts are labelled as rules of thumb.

  • Plain language

Short sentences, Canadian spelling and prices before HST unless a page says otherwise.

  • Corrections

When we find an error, we fix it and update the date on the page.

Common questions

Quick answers about who we are and how the site works.

Is FurnaceQuotes.ca a heating contractor?

No. We neither sell nor install equipment, and we do no repairs. We pass your request to one participating local HVAC company, which books a free in-home estimate and gives you a written quote. Any work, and any contract, is between you and that company.

How does FurnaceQuotes.ca make money?

Participating local heating and cooling companies receive the requests sent through the site, and that funds it. The site, tools and guides are free for homeowners, and a request does not commit you to anything. No company can pay to change a price range or a tool result.

Is a price range on this site a quote?

No. They are typical installed ranges for Ontario, in Canadian dollars before 13% HST, for a standard replacement in a detached home with usable ducts and venting. Your home can land above or below a range. A real price needs someone to see the home.

Do you rank brands or recommend companies?

No. Our guides explain what to look for in any quote instead: the exact model number, how the system was sized, venting, warranty terms and what is included. The quote checker and comparison worksheet help you judge the quotes you get.

Put a real number next to our ranges

Answer a few quick questions. A participating local HVAC company confirms the details, visits for a free estimate and gives you a written quote.
