What changes from city to city, and what does not
Your postal code does not set the price of a furnace. Your house, the time of year and the local rules shape the quote around it.
Changes by city
- Housing age
- Century homes with chimneys or radiators need venting or boiler work that newer subdivisions skip.
- Permits
- Each municipality sets its own building permit rules and fees. Check with your city, or ask the installer to confirm on the quote.
- Busy-season lead times
- From October to January, no-heat calls fill schedules everywhere, and planned jobs wait.
- Utilities
- Gas and electricity distributors differ by city, which matters when you compare running costs for a furnace and a heat pump.
Stays the same everywhere
- Typical price ranges
- The ranges on this site apply across Ontario. We do not add city premiums we cannot back up with evidence.
- Gas safety rules
- Every Ontario city requires a TSSA-registered contractor for gas work.
- What a complete quote lists
- Equipment and model number, sizing, venting, drainage, permits, removal, warranty and the install date.
- Single-stage gas furnace (95 to 96% AFUE)
- $4,000 to $6,500
- Standard central AC, 1.5 to 3 tons (about 14.3 SEER2)
- $3,800 to $7,000
- Whole-home ducted cold-climate heat pump
- $9,000 to $18,000
Typical Ontario installed prices, CAD, before 13% HST. Reviewed October 2026. The same ranges apply in every city above.
A standard gas furnace, a central air conditioner and a ducted cold-climate heat pump cover most requests. If a quote in your city lands well outside these ranges, the line items should explain why: a chimney liner, duct changes, a condensate pump or electrical work. Run it through the quote checker to see where it sits.

Straight answers. If yours is not here, the company can answer it during your free estimate.
Are furnace prices different in each Ontario city?
Less than people expect. The equipment costs about the same across Ontario, so the typical ranges on this site apply everywhere. What differs is the house: an older home that needs a chimney liner, duct changes or a condensate pump costs more than a straight swap in a newer subdivision. Season matters too, because a January breakdown leaves no time to compare.
My city is not listed. Can I still request a quote?
Yes. The form accepts any Ontario postal code, and your request goes to a participating local HVAC company that serves your area. Coverage depends on your address. If no participating company serves it, we cannot book an estimate for you, and your details are not passed to anyone else. The quote guide, quote checker and typical ranges work the same wherever you live.
When is the best time of year to get a furnace quote?
Spring and early fall. Companies have more open days, so you can book an estimate when it suits you and compare quotes without a cold house pushing you to sign. From October to January, no-heat calls come first in every city. If your furnace is 15 or more years old, get it quoted before the first cold snap.
