Cambridge quotes at a glance
Cambridge joined three old towns, Galt, Preston and Hespeler, in 1973 and has grown around them since. That mix of old cores and newer subdivisions means a wide range of heating systems, and the quote follows the system.

Galt, Preston, Hespeler and the newer suburbs
Where your house sits says a lot about what the quote will contain. The free in-home estimate you request through FurnaceQuotes.ca confirms it.
Galt
The largest of the three old towns, known for its 19th-century stone buildings. Older homes may heat with a boiler and radiators, or a furnace still venting into a masonry chimney. Thick stone walls make the vent route a real line item.
Common on these quotes
- New venting or chimney liner
- $300 to $1,500
- Boiler, for radiator homes (total)
- $6,000 to $11,000
Preston
Older homes near the historic core, with many mid-century houses around it. Expect a mix: some chimneys still in use, some furnaces already on PVC venting, and ductwork added to over the years.
Common on these quotes
- Duct changes or extra returns
- $500 to $3,000+
- Gas line work
- $300 to $1,200
Hespeler
A historic mill village on the Speed River with newer subdivisions growing around it. Many households here commute, so the install-day schedule is part of the quote conversation.
Common on these quotes
- Furnace and AC together (total)
- $8,000 to $15,000
- New thermostat
- $150 to $600
Newer subdivisions
Usually PVC venting already, with the original builder-grade furnace and AC. A cleaner swap, but sizing, vent pipe size and drainage in a finished basement still need checking.
Common on these quotes
- Two-stage gas furnace (total)
- $5,500 to $8,000
- Condensate pump, if no drain is close
- $150 to $350
Typical Ontario prices before HST, reviewed October 2026. Add-ons apply only to some homes; rows marked total are full installed prices. Taking away the old unit is often part of the price.
Radiators, boilers and old chimneys
If your Cambridge home has radiators, you most likely need a boiler quote, not a furnace quote. If the furnace still uses a chimney, the quote needs a venting plan.
Hot water heat
Cast-iron radiators, or baseboards fed by hot water pipes, mean a boiler. A modern condensing boiler keeps the radiators and their quiet, even heat; a combi boiler also makes your hot water. Switching to a furnace means running ducts through finished walls and ceilings, which is rarely cheaper. See boiler quotes for what that quote should include.
Chimney venting
A high-efficiency furnace uses its own PVC pipes, and a water heater left in the chimney may need a liner sized for it alone. In stone houses, cutting a vent opening through a thick wall takes extra time. Both belong on the quote, not on install day.
- Heating-only hydronic boiler
- $6,000 to $11,000
- Combi boiler for heat and hot water (high efficiency)
- $7,000 to $13,000
- Single-stage gas furnace (95 to 96% AFUE)
- $4,000 to $6,500
- Two-stage gas furnace (96% AFUE, ECM blower)
- $5,500 to $8,000

We do not add a Cambridge premium: the house and the system set the number.
Planning install day around a commute
Many Cambridge households commute along Highway 401. A furnace swap usually takes one day, and someone needs to be there at the start and the end.
Ask for the first slot
An early start gives the crew the full day and gets your heat back on before evening.
Plan the handover
Decide who lets the crew in and who walks through the finished job, tests the thermostat and takes the paperwork. If that is a neighbour, tell the company in advance.
Clear the path
Move cars and clear the way to the furnace room for the old unit on its way out.
Book outside the rush
In spring and early fall, companies have more flexibility on dates. From October to January, no-heat calls set the schedule.
- January: rush
- February: steady
- March: steady
- April: best
- May: best
- June: AC season
- July: AC season
- August: AC season
- September: best
- October: rush
- November: rush
- December: rush
- Rush: no-heat calls first, planned installs wait.
- Best: easiest months to book and compare.
- AC: cooling calls peak; furnace dates are easier.
- Steady: breakdowns on cold snaps.

Cambridge questions
Straight answers. If yours is not here, the company can answer it during your free estimate.
My Cambridge home has radiators. Should I ask for a furnace quote?
Usually not. Radiators run on hot water from a boiler, so the like-for-like replacement is a new boiler, often a high-efficiency condensing or combi model. Converting to a furnace means installing ductwork through finished space. If you want cooling too, ductless mini-splits add it without ducts. Choose Boiler in the form and the company will check your system.
Will my old chimney work with a new furnace?
A high-efficiency furnace does not use the chimney. It vents through PVC pipe out a side wall or the roof. The real question is what stays in the chimney: a gas water heater left on its own may need a liner, which falls in the typical $300 to $1,500 venting range. Ask each installer to price it on the quote.
Does Cambridge require a permit for a furnace replacement?
Permit needs depend on the job and on the City of Cambridge's current rules, so check with the city's building division or ask the installer to confirm in writing. The quote should say whether a permit is needed, who applies and whether the fee is included. Gas work needs a TSSA-registered contractor.
Can a furnace be installed while I am at work?
Often, if someone can let the crew in and you can be reached during the day. Most swaps take one day, with the heat off while the crew works. Ask for an early start, agree on who checks the finished job, and make sure the thermostat and warranty paperwork are explained before the crew leaves.
