Is FurnaceQuotes.ca free to use?
Yes. Sending a request, the booking call and the in-home estimate are free, and you do not have to accept the quote. The service is paid for by the participating heating and cooling company, not by you. Our tools and Quote Guide are free as well, with no form to fill in. If the quote is not right for you, say no.
How does a quote request work?
You answer up to eight short questions, which takes about a minute. Our booking team then calls to confirm the details and book a time. A participating local HVAC company visits, checks your home and gives you a written quote. You compare it, ask questions and decide. How it works covers each step in detail.
Who will contact me, and when?
Our booking team, shortly after you send the request. It can be an automated or AI-assisted call. It confirms what you need and books your free in-home estimate. You may also get an email about your request. After that, the participating company doing the estimate may contact you about the appointment and your quote. If you chose urgent, your request is marked that way.
How many companies get my details?
One company. Your request goes to our booking team and one participating local HVAC company that serves your area, for this request only. It is not sent to a list of contractors who all phone at once. If you want more quotes to compare, collect them yourself and line them up in our comparison worksheet.
Do you install equipment or certify contractors?
No. FurnaceQuotes.ca does not install, service or repair equipment, and we do not certify, license or inspect any company. The company that visits is responsible for its own work. Only a TSSA-registered contractor may do gas work in Ontario, so ask for the registration number and the technician's gas certificate before work starts, and get the warranty terms in writing.
Can I ask for a repair instead of a replacement?
Yes. Choose Repair on the first question. The home size question is skipped and the visit starts with a diagnosis, which typically costs $100 to $200 in Ontario. Many common fixes cost far less than a new furnace: a hot surface igniter typically runs $250 to $450. If you are told to replace instead, ask for the reason in writing. Choose Not sure if you want a straight answer on repair or replace.
My furnace stopped working. Can I get help quickly?
Choose Urgent: no heat or no cooling on the timeline question so your request is marked urgent, and say so on the booking call. How soon someone can come depends on the company's schedule, and cold snaps are the busiest days. If you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the home and contact your gas utility's emergency line or emergency services from outside first.
How accurate are the prices on this site?
They are typical Ontario ranges in Canadian dollars, before 13% HST, reviewed October 2026. They are built from prices that Ontario contractors publish, manufacturer and distributor list-price guidance and the scope of a typical install. For example, a single-stage 95 to 96% AFUE gas furnace typically costs $4,000 to $6,500 installed, and a two-stage model $5,500 to $8,000. They are estimates for a standard replacement, not quotes. See our methodology.
Why might my quote be higher or lower than your range?
Our ranges assume a standard replacement with usable ductwork and venting. Quotes rise with new venting or a chimney liner ($300 to $1,500), ductwork changes ($500 to $3,000+), gas line or electrical work, tight access, premium brands, higher efficiency and peak-season demand. A quote can also come in low because it leaves things out, so read it line by line or run it through the quote checker.
How many quotes should I get?
For a full replacement, two or three written quotes for the same scope is a sensible number. One gives you less to compare, and many more mostly adds visits. Compare the equipment, how it was sized, the add-ons and the warranty, not only the total. This request gets you one quote from one local company. How many quotes to get goes deeper.
Are there rebates for a new furnace, AC or heat pump?
Heat pump rebates do not cover a standalone gas furnace or a cooling-only air conditioner, so do not count on a rebate for a straight furnace or AC replacement. Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program offers heat pump rebates with eligibility rules by fuel, home type and product, and it requires approval before installation. Programs change, so confirm the rules on the official program page and terms, and never sign based on a promised amount. The Canada Greener Homes Loan closed to new applications on October 1, 2025.
Renting or buying a furnace: which is better?
Over the life of the furnace, buying usually works out cheaper. Furnace rental plans in Ontario usually cost $40 to $80 a month on 10 to 15 year terms. At $60 a month for 12 years you would pay $8,640, against a typical $4,000 to $6,500 to buy a standard furnace. Renting can suit you if paying up front is not possible. Read the buyout and cancellation terms first. Financing versus renting compares the options.
Can I cancel a contract I signed at home?
Usually, yes. Ontario's Consumer Protection Act gives a 10-day cooling-off period to cancel a contract signed in your home without giving a reason, starting the day you receive a written copy. If you asked for installation to start before the 10 days are up, some costs can still apply. Furnaces and air conditioners also cannot be sold door to door unless you invited the company. Read Ontario's rules.
What happens to the information I send?
It is used to handle your quote request. Your answers and contact details go to our booking team and to one participating local HVAC company, for this request. Consent to be contacted is not a condition of purchase. Our privacy policy explains what we collect, who receives it, how long it is kept and how to opt out.
How do I opt out or have my details deleted?
You can opt out whenever you like. Tell the booking team or the company that you no longer want calls or emails about your request, and follow the steps in our privacy policy to ask for your details to be deleted. Stopping calls does not cancel an appointment or a contract you made with a company, so cancel those with the company directly.
Does this site use cookies or tracking?
No. There are no advertising trackers, no analytics scripts and no cookies. The quote form keeps your answers in your browser tab while you fill it in, so you do not lose them if you open another page. The comparison worksheet saves what you type on your device only, and nothing from it is sent to us.
